Keep Digging

Being Caught between a Mech and the Swordmarks
By Asher d’Deneith

🧙 DM Rj (Tanarion d’Tharashk)
Keepers: Christian (Asher d’Deneith), Kris S (Ratha), David S (N-D311 “En-Dell”), Aaron (Xander), Daniel (Sam Helfen)

Objective: Investigate the House Deneith Stronghold of city Karrlakton for evidence of crime predating the war involving Cannith Military officers and Karnathi necromancers.

Outcome: Found evidence of multi being infused battle mech that is specialized to disrupt spellcasters and rogue Internal Affairs Officer’s ordering his men to commit attempted fratricide another House Deneith Member to secure the Mech’s use. Sorren d’Deneith and his men were taken into custody and are being held within the anti-mage prison cells within Sentinel Tower alive.

Settling into Karrlakton with the other Keepers was quite the odd homecoming, the stoic and unchanging eyes of the statues that stand at eternal attention on the path to Sentinel Tower seemed less biting than years ago when I was last here. The spark and bustle of the town was reduced to the doldrumatic expediency of soldiers training for a day that never came. Service is mandatory within Karrnath, but with the mists of the Mourneland a stone’s throw from the town the palpable dourness could be felt across every level of the town. Though that fact couldn’t dissuade fair Xander from bringing some crowd favorites, levity, and then a prompt to contemplate what it is fight to the whole Tavern. With some compensated rooms and beers under our belt we set out to follow our trail.

Naturally with HL with the Squad, there was no chance the Dewie Decimal System being able to have any book or scroll hidden from the accord keepers. There is a pattern of optical illusions attempting to hide any of the esoteric and restricted sections of work for Karrthani structures that I’m now beginning to find them everywhere. It keeps setting off my Sentinel mark every time we are near one or a light goes out near Sam.

We then made our way to Divine Statue of the Silver Flame Set upon the banks of Cyre River. The mists seemed to roll with faces and form across the dark waters and be buffeted away by the light of the flames and the Cleric’s presence as they tended the flame. Looking across the beach within the spectrum offered by the eyes of the grave let me view, “spirits comforting those filled with loss looking onto Cyre, circling around those on the edge of consciousness, and passing back across the dark water’s to Cyre. When I swore the oath of the Sentinel here there was no emanation of such a connection to realm of Dolurrh. Seeing the earnestness of the Cleric of the Silver Flame in wanting to well by destruction of Cyre. I am struck with how likely we are all complicit to vary degrees by every nation for Cyre’s Catacendre making the very land and realms a reflection of how we use magic to bend Khorvaire to our will and sell our mastery of it.

With that ethical problem fully unsolved until we can find the architects of Cyre’s downfall before it’s repeated. It was time to head to sentinel tower, having the eminence of Scholar of the College of Eloquence and Heir of the Deneith mark we were able to soundly gain entry. We quickly moved to speak to Administrator Tharvoz Kiln, the representative of the Crown within the tower. Once we got him free of all the pressing eyes of the Cannith Dignitaries, Marshal, and Industrialists we were able to get him Breelish Food and Refreshments along with a writ of inspection for the house Cannith Forgehold that was currently under by house Deneith members.

With that in hand we went to meet Soren d’Deneith, the internal affairs officer that gleefully offered to escort us to the site as he had the key. He wanted to ensure we didn’t remove any key items during our investigation. Upon our first investigations we detected a potential lever and activated it that moved some filing cabinets out of the way to reveal a dank and musty tunnel. At that moment my mark began to flare in a way I have never felt before as Soren had drawn his weapons with the the intention of Fratricide on the mind with the word’s, “its just Business”. No one has ever accused the Swordmarks of being the sharpest individuals so that’s why they usually have to have a backup and that they did in the Fold of a massive warsuit that emanated energy with each step.

As we were spread all across the room for the investigation the Mech charged towards us and was quickly engaged. N-D311 quickly solved being outnumbered by summoning a dinosaur on the charge the disreputable Deneith formation and throwing Soren to the ground. Unfortunately for that formation in their haste to get into an advantageous position they failed to notice the concealed for of Ratha as Twin guiding bolts quickly found the mark as another guard was rendered dazzled by Xander’s hypnotic pattern. As the fight began to fall away from Soren he called upon a sleep spell to prevent him form being further pummeled my N-D311’s companion. He became more desperate being confronted by his own consequences. So I primed a guiding bolt to hopefully quell this fight and encourage his men to stand down. As I saw the tell tale signs of the Mark of the Sentinel’s Shield emanation to form I retorted, “You are unworthy of wielding that mark, the sword and shield must be wielded together” as he began a final retort of spilling house blood I invoked the circle of Mortality and denied him his death to stand trial for his crimes through spare the during.

With the Soren down others subdued, and mesmerized we were able to get the remaining guards to drop their weapons. Sorens actions to direct the mech to self destruct quickly became the focus as there was precious time before we all became a crater. The keepers manifested all forms of connection to meet find some tether to the beings within the system and politely command them to Deactivate which Sovereign Host thankfully it worked as I was about three feet from it at the time.

We applied gentle repose and revivify to those injured in the fighting to ensure no permanent damage had been done that day except to the mech. We then extracted our suspect to an additional location to find what information could be gleaned to why they were willing to do all this beyond orders how long all of this had been going on. With these signed testimonies we turned the prosecution of the attempted Fratricide and Assault of the keepers over to High Marshal Dovren to oversee their sentence within the Mindlock Cells within Sentinel Tower.

It’s once hells of a homecoming, I can’t wait for the next quarterly review.
