Sealing the Gate; Sealing our Fate
Keepers: Baldwin, Sollyn, Traeceur, Tilly, Bella, Canini
Objectives: Survive the madness, keep enough Gatekeepers alive long enough to seal the Xoriat portal, and banish Draal Duor.
Outcome: We were successful, both thanks and despite a pirate harengon who crash landed on our mission. Traeceur sadly did not survive.
As the projection of Draal Duor menacingly appeared in the sky, two unexpected things happened. Firstly, the sound of screams from citizens who had gone cannibalistically mad. We gathered that these citizens had all at some point in the past consumed Nadai. The second unexpected event was the arrival of Canini, a harengon who landed through the skylight of the warehouse as their airship crash landed.
What on Khorvaire a harengon is, how they were piloting an airship, and why they were carrying a massive firearm were questions we didn’t have time to ask as the horde was bearing down on us. Abernathy messaged us to let us know he was working on an extraction plan, and we were to hold out until then.
Traceur managed to find enough ingredients in the Nadai lab to make some nonlethal percussion mines, and Tilly was able to place an arcane lock on the door. I prayed to all the Sovereign Host to protect us and, I must confess, we did smoke some more drugs. They seemed to be blessed by Olladra, so I think the rest of the Host will forgive us.
Our barriers held for a time, but eventually a Nadai-mad orc broke through the door, and the fight was on. Our new friend Canini appeared to be a bit of a pyromaniac, burning both friend and foe alike. Despite warnings to not kill the innocent civilians, several perished by flame and I saw their souls heading not do Dolurrh but to Draal Duor himself. May the Host forgive us for their fate.
Suddenly, a portal opened and we were called through. The Gatekeepers were summoning us Accord Keepers to the remnants of the mountain where Draal Duor was first thought to be defeated. There he was, not a projection but in the flesh, along with his pet dragon. Several Gatekeepers were performing a ritual to banish the Betrayer and seal the gate to Xoriat once again.
We fought fiercely. The dragon had a fierce breath weapon which nearly felled me. I am sorry to report that Traceur fell to the beast after putting up a valiant fight. Several Gatekeepers perished, but we managed to save enough for them to complete their ritual. May their sacrifice never be forgotten.
I am thankful the portal was closed, but I cannot help but be mournful for those we lost. Traceur died before my eyes, and when the dust had settled I heard the news about Cinque, who was with another party and perished as well. I will soon prepare a service and a memorial for all who perished: Accord Keepers, Gatekeepers, and civilians alike. Khorvaire, nay all Eberron, is wounded from this.
Before the portal closed, Draal Duor mentioned something about a “dreamer”. I am not sure what he meant. But I fear our work as Accord Keepers is far from over.
