New Leads
Henly has found an interesting letter in the dead letter archive – one between Tomasi and Casper, dated one week before the incident, and start as an apology then devolves to panicked rambling.
With that, we went to Brellen to talk to Casper. Arriving at night, we went to the inn after wandering the city for the bit. I happened to meet the director of the shadow network when I just wanted to compare the stage engineering between theater stages and circus stages. But I didn’t know she was anything more than a play director that at the time.
The next morning, we find a single piece of paper that was put into our mail slot, “Noon, downstairs bar – Accord Keepers only” written on it. We split, some of us going to Morgrave University to find Casper Darling, the rest of us staying to meet the note sender.
At Morgrave University, the receptionist told us that his office was room 318 of the history building, but put great emphasis that the 4th floor is prohibited.
Meeting with Casper, he tells us that there are things he had to talk about with the accord keepers. When we told him about Tomasi’s death, he feels as if he is involved. He asked us if we knew about the Esoteric of Aurien, saying they decide access to info and what could be studied, often making research frustrating. So he reached out to Tomasi for help to translate documents in deepspeech. He pulled out some rubbings from tablets found in the Mournlands. These stone tablets were given by Dennis the dentist to translate and transcribe. There are 5 translations of strange arcane treatises and the latest is incomplete. The tablet Tomasi took was one that has the line “You are a wyrm through time…” Dennis got these tablets from a mortician named Dylan. Casper let us take the rubbings to look deeper into and translate. It was noted that the final page speaks of saturating the host with the energy of Zoriat.
At the bar, the director with guards at her side tells us we better hold our end of the bargain, the one made with Thuranni. And to not interfere with business. Then invites us to the play again.
We reconvene and head to the prison to speak with Dennis, who is pleading innocent by insanity against 19 counts of murder and medical malpractice. Once Henly brings up the connection between him and the tablets, Dennis leaves to speak to his lawyer and comes back saying he’s taking the plea deal of 50 years. He then tells us that Dylan has been taking artifacts for testing on the population, and that he’s the head of the land-runners in Kanroon. He then spoke of warp magic – a wild form of necromancy that corrupts what it touches. Dylan hadn’t gotten his hand on one, but he was working for a warp stone – a stone that embodies warp magic and ‘evolves’ others. Then he says that Zoriat is inevitable and confesses that he used nadai as a sedative, knowing the ties to Zoriat. And that the Nadai was sourced from Dylan.
After that slew of information, we took up on the Director’s offer and watched the play. In the middle of the play, some of the audience became warped and hostile. We made them no longer a threat and the play was able to continue.
