NBHK, Our mission this week took us into baffling territory. Investigating the organization called Roots, which the Keepers have flagged as a potential threat due to their belief in a coming apocalypse, we visited one of their meetings. At the meeting, we discovered that several of their members were adopted young women who had disappeared from their families without a trace, and their parents were desperately trying to find them again.

The stated mission of Roots is to “give in to the cyclical nature of strife,” and they seek to enhance themselves somehow. Heading to their isolated compound in Geverlon, we investigated further. In the compound we noticed that it was primarily populated by shifters and half-orcs, and some of them seemed to be suffering from memory issues. We even noticed that some of their clothes were woven with the same magical thread that was used to sew poor Geoffrey the Snake’s eyes shut back in the Demon Wastes.

We eventually found the trail of the missing children and followed it to a church, where the priest directed us further on to find an old abandoned chapel in the woods. At this chapel we found a couple of the missing children, horrifically disfigured with parts of their skin and bodies replaced with dragon and lizard parts. We were able to free them and bring them home, but the compound itself had disappeared by the time we let the chapel. The goals of this group and their whereabouts remain impenetrable to me.
