Preventing the Birth of a Titian at the Cost of a Friend

Mission: Peacekeepers / A Colossal Dilemma [WEEK 2/2] (C2S12)

Keepers: @Aaron (Xander) @Christian (Asher d’Deneith) @Daniel (Sam Helfen) @Matt H (Dahtsos) @Alan (T’ggar)

DM: Rj (Tanarion d’Tharashk)

Objectives: We’ve prevented the sudden goblin incursion attempt into Breland, but the question still remains – ***why***?

Abandoned crates and munitions from the scattered goblinoid army revealed that they were being supplied with massive amounts of Nadai, which explains what fueled their rage like state. However these crates were marked with symbols that tie them back to Cannith secret projects.

I have a suspicion that this random event was a distraction of some kind. Something to take our focus (and our forces) away from the Mournland border, where something is clearly brewing.

We need to head back into Darguun with a banner of peace, not only to negotiate a truce and end the conflict, but also to learn more about what provoked them to attack in the first place and the powers that are using them as pawns.

Outcome:

Reinforcements from the Accord Keepers arrived at a critical moment in the investigation of Project Minotaur, finding a massive mechanical construct — codenamed Project Red Sun — powered by five dragonshard crystals and sustained by the souls of those forced to work its matrix. Supervising the construction was Taelios Vaun, whose necromantic influence oversaw the fusion of magic and machine.

The Keepers engaged immediately. Early in the confrontation, T’ggar narrowly avoided a lethal Disintegrate spell, while his protective aura mitigated additional damage and frustrated Vaun’s attempts to dominate the battlefield. HL broke through Vaun’s shielding, exposing vulnerabilities in the mech. Asher displayed extraordinary strength, ripping a shard directly from the ground, while T’ggar removed another after multiple attempts.

The mech activated prematurely and unpredictably. Vaun, unwilling to face the ensuing chaos, retreated from the field as he knew he would not be able to control the mech due to the premature activation.

A fierce battle proceeded, with the Accord Keepers giving it their all, not just to stay alive, but to keep the monstrosity from breaking free and wreaking havoc. Asher repeatedly exploited weaknesses in its defenses, allowing T’ggar to deliver devastating smites, culminating in a critical strike that neutralized the construct. T’ggar efforts were not quick enough however, as the mech was able to get off one last disintegration beam, resulting in the untimely demise of the already heavily injured HL.

Despite the loss of HL, whose life was claimed by the mech’s disintegration attack, the operation successfully destroyed Project Red Sun and the remaining dragonshard hubs.

With the mech destroyed and Vaun’s immediate plans thwarted, the Keepers secured the site and recovered critical intelligence about the use of dragonshards in experimental constructs. The incident further confirms that the goblin incursions into Breland were likely a diversion, orchestrated to draw forces away from more nefarious operations along the Mournland border.

The situation remains volatile, but the Accord Keepers have once again proven their ability to respond swiftly to threats that blend magic, machinery, and necromancy.
