All Roads Lead to Morgrave

Mission: Battle of Kennrun [WEEK 2/2] (C2S8)

Keepers: hekate (U3-N.R, “Yu’en Rage”), Katt (Belladonna Tanglefoot), David S (N-D311 “En-Dell”), Alan (T’ggar), Christian (Asher d’Deneith)

DM: Morgan (Assistant Editor)

Objectives: Skirmishes between New Cyre and Dylan Faden’s monstrous armies from Kenrunn have reached a peak. The Accord Keepers deployed peacekeeping troops to the eastern foothills of Breland, and managed to quash an attempted flanking of New Cyre through the southern mountain passes.

Now, it’s our turn.

We are organizing a counteroffensive. It’s hopefully going to be a quick and decisive one. Our goal is to march on Kenrunn from the west, and reclaim it as the last bastion of sanity before reaching the wastes of the Mournlands. While our armies open the way, we’re going to delve into the fortification, and kill Dylan.

Be warned, Keepers – Kennrun is like a fortress, described by historians as “a maze of many twisty passages, all alike.” Keep your wits about you.

Outcome:

The Gatekeepers, reinforced by allied forces to roughly 200 strong, have launched a daring counteroffensive to reclaim Kennrun from Dylan Faden’s monstrous legions. The city, long described by historians as “a maze of many twisty passages, all alike,” proved every bit as treacherous as feared.

After breaching the outer and inner walls, the Keepers descended into the fortress tunnels where Dylan is known to be hiding. Early traps tested the party: T’ggar triggered a Tesla coil that produced a sustained A4 note, which the team later used as a key to solving a deadly room of closing walls. Christian’s quick thinking with a cap of water-breathing recovered a crucial music box, whose tone halted the crushing walls and revealed the next passage.

The tunnels yielded deadly opposition: illusions of warp spawn, undead beholders, and a variety of minions. T’ggar fell in combat against one of the warped illusions but was stabilized by Asher’s lifeforce. The team recovered a powerful Amulet of the Devout and three beholder eyestalks, gaining both treasure and insight into Faden’s twisted operations.

In a room dominated by a piano, the Keepers replicated the A440 note, unlocking the final chamber containing Dylan himself. Flanked by two warforged, he used dimensional door to escape, leaving his minions behind. Time constraints prevented a prolonged pursuit, but the team did manage to uncover critical intelligence: a scrying orb tuned to the battlefield, coded notes detailing troop movements, and a stash of warpstone and teeth from captured warp-forms.

A secret storage room revealed more disturbing discoveries: rations and supplies linked to Morgrave University, along with a metallic silver pseudo-dragon named Clang, seemingly untouched by warp-form corruption. These finds hint at broader experiments and a sinister supply chain behind Dylan’s army.

Though Dylan eluded capture, the counteroffensive successfully reclaimed key positions in Kennrun and neutralized substantial enemy forces.
