All’s Quite on the New Cyre Front
Mission: Hold the Line [WEEK 1/2] (C2S7)
Keepers: hekate (U3-N.R, “Yu’en Rage”), Katt (Belladonna Tanglefoot), David S (N-D311 “En-Dell”), Alan (T’ggar), Christian (Asher d’Deneith)
DM: Morgan (Assistant Editor)
Objectives: Reports from New Cyre since we ran into the party of adventurers returning from the overrun Kennrun have been… interesting, to say the least. Rumors have been swirling about an attack brewing, as scouts have spotted spies of the enemy in the foothills out east.
Now, it’s our turn. It’s time for a little game of strategy, Keepers. Kennrun has fallen. Let’s make sure New Cyre isn’t next.
Outcome:
In a tense, week-long operation to secure New Cyre’s eastern approaches, Gatekeeper forces engaged enemy scouts and warp-forms threatening the region.
Deploying 100 units across mountains and meadow, the Keepers systematically rooted out hostile agents. Early in the mission, aerial reconnaissance spotted lightly armored enemy scouts, though initial pursuit failed. Subsequent encounters proved far more fruitful: captured scouts were deprogrammed and, in some cases, replicated as changelings to gain intelligence.
By Day 3, a group of twenty warp-forms was located and neutralized, with scorched earth leaving no survivors. Other enemy agents, including a spy who transformed into an abomination, were dispatched without incident. Strategic maneuvers over the following days prevented larger enemy contingents from regrouping, with key units routed using a combination of guiding bolts, tidal waves, and moonbeam spells.
The operation culminated with a decisive pincer maneuver against a squad of twenty, employing hallucinatory terrain to collapse the enemy off a cliff, leaving their leader critically injured. Over the week, Gatekeepers cleared roughly half of the enemy forces remaining in the region, though three allied groups were lost in the grasslands.
By the mission’s end, New Cyre’s foothills had been secured, enemy scouts neutralized, and vital troop movements documented for future operations. While some losses were sustained, the Keepers’ combination of tactical ingenuity, magical support, and sheer determination has left the enemy in retreat — at least for now.
