Scorching the Enemy

Mission: Keep It Going (CH. 1 Finale – Part 2) (C1S12)

Keepers: Doug ♂ (Lola ♀), Richard (Miki), Alan (T’ggar), Christian (Asher d’Deneith), Aaron (Xander)

DM: Rj (Tanarion d’Tharashk)

Objectives: Save the populace of the Shadow Marsh and the Eldeen Reaches and stop Draal Dhur.

Outcome:

As violent mania swept through the crowd, the cult leader Draal Dhur materialized, channeling the chaotic power of Xoriat. With lives at stake and any death feeding Dhur’s strength, the Accord Keepers attempt subdued the frenzied crowd using only non-lethal force, allowing innocents to flee. But just as calm returned, fate intervened.

The Accord Keepers were suddenly transported to the peak of a wind-swept mountain, face-to-face with a group of ancient Gate Keeper druids. These druids, thought to be lost to history, stood mid-ritual—an arcane process not seen in generations. No records mention its method. No living Gate Keeper knows how it was done. This was not a revival of old magic; it was a singular, unexplained resurgence.

As the druids chanted, Draal Dhur attacked alongside a formidable Shadow Dragon. In the battle that followed, Draal transformed into a mindflayer-like monstrosity, attempting to devour the minds of the heroes. Thanks to the brave efforts of the party—and notably Scorch, the familiar of ND-311—grapples were broken and allies were saved.

Hollywood dealt the final blow to the Shadow Dragon, while Lola ended Draal Dhur’s reign with an eldritch blast to the eye. With the Draal Dhur defeated, the ritual—whatever it truly was—completed, sealing Draal away once more.

What magic was used, and why it returned only now, remains a mystery.

What is certain, however, is that the Gate Keepers are no longer legends—they are necessity. The world may not see that ritual again, but those who witnessed it will remember: something ancient stirred, just long enough to save us.

With the Closed Circle shaken, conspirators revealed, and public support galvanized, the Gate Keepers stand at a turning point. Whether the world will heed Velderan’s call remains uncertain—but for one night, hope surged, and the shadows trembled.
