Blood of the beast – Xander
First visit for Xander to the Talenta Plains and first time seeing Dinosaurs as well. Couple day train ride to get there which honestly was the most enjoyable part. Things are not well in the plains or the halfling people there. Note: it is not safe to sleep in the open plains! While we were not attacked unsettling dreams occurred and Xander didn’ get a wink of sleep, along with other members of our party. Xander attempted to heal an infected dino with a ranged healing spell, but it was to far gone and attacked and killed 2 members of its nearby herd. It was determined that it couldn’t be saved and only something like a greater restoration spell could have removed the infection of which none of us are capable. Toryn shot it at close range as it was about to wake from a sleep spell, though we neglected to dispose of the body and it was gone without any trace as well as its neighbors in the morning. This could have spread the infection further in the plains, which apparently is a common occurrence.
We discover one of “The Scales” hideouts an infiltrated our way in by convincing the Guards, High on their own supply, they were a bit hot headed but a bit of magic calmed them down. Inside we discover what we were expecting to be a prisoner Carver Kal that needed rescue but was actually on of the creators of these contaminating potions. He is a lying foul man that should be turned into the authorities but some members of the party want to let him go if he makes us a formula for an antidote. Xander wants to turn him in, perhaps he could be convinced of the error of his ways and help out.
We also stopped a ritual from a Shaman who was some kind of feline with reversed hands and quite powerful. Immune to lower level spells and made an escape after taking significant damage from the keepers (none done by Xander of course!) They had captured a powerful dino Flamemaw who burns the plains for renewal and corrupting it with some kind of ghosts from the mournlands. We stopped it but they attempted to destroy the evidence by taking down the tower we were in, we barely escaped mostly due to the poor nights sleep some of us had. Things are not well on the plains, we need to keep on top of this cult and convince them of the error of their ways.
Another note for the record, Xander handed out chocolate treats to his companions for the train journey and apparently this was Cinque’s first time to have chocolate, she tried with the wrapper still on (also IRL at table!) but seemed to like it better without the wrapper…
