The Train Job-Keeper: Toryn
NBHK, I come to you now with my first report on the occurrences within this new organization The Accord Keepers. Myself and the erstwhile heir Matilda d’Kundarak were placed within a team of other Keepers, who themselves were working within a larger squadron of several teams. As a collective, we were playing a dangerous shell game with the enemy. Each team had a “V.I.P.” to protect, but none knew which was the real V.I.P.. Presumably, the assassins in pursuit of our V.I.P. also did not know which was the real target. Each team was in charge of a set of train cars on the Lightning Rail, and our team had custody of the Entertainment Cars. A Lounge, An Aquarium, and a magical car whose contents would change based on the configuration of a set of magical pins placed outside the door. Our team was deliberately uninformed of the identity of our “”V.I.P” as a protective measure, and we were instead tasked with protecting all members of our section as though they were the “V.I.P..” The Paladin amongst our group had been casting alarm on the entrance to the entertainment cars at night, and several days into our travel this strategy proved fruitful. The spell activated early in the morning, alerting our team to the possibility of an attack on our “V.I.P..” We informed the stewards of the train that there might be dangerous elements aboard and to allow us to handle them, then went searching. We quickly discovered that the magical train car had had some of its pins stolen, thereby forcing it to remain open to an extradimensional space containing a maze. We quickly searched the maze and located one of the pins, before backtracking to the aquarium and finding that it had been tampered with too, After retrieving another pin each from a tank that had been frozen over and a lockbox with a music-based code, it became clear that our enemy had deliberately hidden these pins in order to waste our time while they committed some nefarious deed in one of the inaccessible sections of the magic carriage. Using all of our retrieved pins, we were able to reconfigure the magic carriage to open into a planetarium. Within, we found that the floor showed signs of a person being dragged in, and of one of the people doing the dragging had been wet for some reason. There were two cult members inside, one of whom had disguised themself to conceal the fact that they were some kind of amphibious creature. They were standing over the unconscious body of one of the passengers we were tasked with guarding, whom we correctly assumed was our “V.I.P.,” but Arc was able to approach peaceably before they realized we were Accord Keepers. Combat ensued when Arc attempted to heal the unconscious woman, and we defeated the cult members just in time, as it became clear upon healing the “V.I.P” that they had been dying of a poison that the assassins were waiting to let take its course. It was only upon arriving in Sharn that we were informed of the shell game that we had been operating within, and our “V.I.P.” had been a decoy changeling. The real V.I.P. had been with a different team, and was revealed to be named Harry Highgax before being whisked away by some other Accord Keepers.
The Accord Keeper Matilda d’Kundarak proved herself invaluable in this first mission with the Keepers, as did all of my squadmates on this first mission.
